The Guard Dawgs play with piss and vinegar and the Rays simply have not been playing with piss and vinegar. The Rays have Ryan Pepiot taking the bump, who definitely is solid, but his lack of inning length and propensity to give up hard contact does not bode well against a top 10 offense. Steven Kwan, JRam, and the Naylor Brothers are all capable of doing damage against pitchers who let batters barrel up their pitches the way Pepiot does.

It's Logan Gilbert against a bad offense. While the Mariners get to face an opener. I mean look at the savant page

Should be an easy cover

Max Scherzer is getting reputation odds which is all the better for me. He's who he used to be and has had a propensity to get rocked in Houston, giving up 4 home runs in his last 2 starts in Minute Maid park.

Ronel Blanco has been exceptionally lucky, but part of that luck is trusting the defense behind him to make plays. 2.53 ERA to 4.31 FIP is crazy. It's not sustainable. Same with a .184 BABIP and 86.6% LOB rate. What has made him great this season is the above average chase and whiff rates, along with a great hard hit rate and significant extension when pitching, so his otherwise mediocre stuff plays much stronger. Blanco will keep having success against offenses that can't punish his propensity to force weak contact, which is exactly what Texas is. Texas has a bottom half BABIP at .283, along with negative value on their base running, with the 6th worst baserunning value in all of MLB. Those teams cannot punish Blanco as say the Twins, Phillies, and Reds could with their above average BABIPs and great team baserunning.

Also the Astros are just back as a team. The 17-8 June thrust them into the wild card discussions and the 8-4 July has them threatening the Mariners. They're just better than a mediocre Rangers side.
