Best Bet Season Record: 23-24

The Dodgers are the new Yankees. What I mean by new Yankees is that they are the same type of machine that the George Steinbrenner era Yankees were. They have the bankroll and the farm system to sustain injuries and roster churn, and that bankroll takes effect in the form of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman both having MVP caliber seasons. Those two are getting a lot of the shine, and rightfully so, but the biggest reason the Dodgers are doing what they're doing in the 2nd half of the season is that the two superstars are being supported by homegrown prospects. Bobby Miller has been showing out as a starting pitcher, James Outman and Michael Busch have provided incredibly valuable at bats, and the pitching staff is getting more help in the big league retun of Ryan Pepiot. Pepiot is taking the mound tonight and has only pitched 9 innings in the show, but he got his feet wet in 2022 in the MLB, struggled as all young pitchers tend to, and in 2023 he dominated AAA with a 28% K% and a 2.9% BB%. His stuff is translatable to the big league level and guys like Pepiot are why the Dodgers can survive losing Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and not having Walker Buehler.
Shouting out Pepiot is cool, and why this Best Bet has some juice, but man, Brandon Pfaadt has been better for the Snakes but I do not trust him against this Dodger lineup. Betts and Freeman are already too much for great pitchers, Will Smith, James Outman, David Peralta, Jason Heyward, and Max Muncy are all capable of doing damage.
So yeah, the Dodgers are inevitable, why should Pfaadt be fairing better than aces Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly
